2020-09-27

Madhes, Parsa, Birgunj, Ward 21

Since 27th of September, the workers of Himalayan Distillery Limited in Patelnagar, Birgunj-21 with the support of Trade Union Parsa are on a strike since September 27 demanding wages which resulted in a standstill of the industry’s production. Himalayan Distillery Limited produces Royal Treasure, Golden Oak, Black Oak and has 188 permanent labourers and 72 staff.

Due to the lockdown since 1st of April and the ban imposed by the District Administration Office, Parsa, the company was running for two and a half months in seven months with a very little production. However, the workers alleged that they were not paid as per the criteria set by the government as the management cut the wages as per the rules by transferring money from the welfare fund despite working hard in such a crisis. They are also accusing the company for running without taking the necessary precautions during the Corona pandemic

Meanwhile, administration of Himalayan Distillery admitted that the salary facility was reduced as per the provision of 'No Work, No Pay' in the Labor Act 2074 BS and paid as per the rules in the pandemic. They are trying to resolve the issue through negotiations with the workers.
