Kathmandu, Adhikar karmi haru dwara Adhikari dampati ko jivan rakshya ko maag.
July 28, Human rights activists have appealed the government to save lives of Gangamaya and Nanda Prasad Adhikari, who have been staging fast-unto-death for the 277 day demanding action against the murder of their son.
Issuing an appeal on July 28, rights activists Sushil Pyakurel, Kanak Mani Dixit, Mandira Sharma, Subodh Raj Pyakurel, Sharmila Karki and Charan Prasai reminded that the leaders of the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) remember, they had promised to the couple that they would see justice done on the 2004 murder of their son Krishna Prasad.
It has been 277 days since Gangamaya and Nanda Prasad Adhikari started their fast-unto-death, being kept alive at Bir Hospital through intravenous feed.
"All procedures have been stopped in the name of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which is yet to be formed, and even though the Supreme Court of Nepal as well as the UN-OHCHR have stated that the truth-and-reconciliation process should not deny continuity of the criminal justice process. From its shameful inaction, the present Government has shown its true character as an entity supporting impunity," the appeal said.
The rights activists also condemned the Constituent Assembly member's apathy towards the Adhikari couple's demand. "Meanwhile, the 575 Members of Parliament seem untouched by Adhikari couple's demand for justice in the courts, and have looked the other way as the couple's health fails," the appeal stated.
The rights activists reiterated their belief that Gangamaya and Nanda Prasad Adhikari should not put their life at risk through fast-unto-death for the goal of securing justice on their son's murder.
They have asked the Government to direct the Chitwan District Attorney's Office to work with haste and diligence to bring the case of Krishna Prasad Adhikari to final hearing in the Chitwan District Court and to follow the warrant issued by the Chitwan District Court to immediately approach Interpol and the British Government to bring the main accused named Rudra Acharya from Northern Ireland to Nepal to face court proceedings.
