District Court verdict to 20 year imprisonment on a murder case in Humla

The District Court has slapped 20 years imprisonment deciding over a murder case of District Committee member of Nepali Congress (Democratic) Netra Bahadur Shahi, 30, of Darma VDC-1. A bench of District Court Judge Khilanath Regmi issued the sentence on December 4 regarding killing after abduction of Shahi by the then CPN-M cadres. Pyari Lal Shahi, brother of Netra Bahadur had filed a complaint against the then CPN-M District Committee Members Kamal Aidi alias Basanta of Barai VDC-2, Sher Bahadur Pal, 66, of Shreemastha VDC-1 and Chandra Singh Karki, 32, of Sarkideu VDC-2, accusing them of killing Netra after abduction on March 10, 2007. Kamal has been sentenced to 20 years, Sher Bahadur five years while another accused Chandra has been acquitted by the Court, according to Devi Sharan Phadera, stipendiary lawyer of the District Court. Police had arrested Sher Bahadur on September 26, 2010 and Chandra Singh on May 5, 2015. District Court Humla said that Kamal Aidi was transferred by the order of District Court Dolpa. Phadera said that appeal can be filed within 70 days in the culprits are not satisfied with the District Court's verdict. Nepal Human Rights Yearbook 2008 states that Netra's body was found beside the Jiula Dopka river banks in Shreenagar VDC on June 18, 2007.
